Defining the space has become of utmost importance in open floor plans. Accentuating the space’s flexibility, the Frame and Column Partitions designed by Copenhagen-based studio ÖRNDUVALD are meant to be displayed as temporary spatial changes that enhance the visual appeal of the space. Focusing on function, texture, surface, physical and visual relations with the space, the designs were created to offer an alternative to usual space dividers.
“The partition function as a transformable installment that can be assembled or extended by the given situation. A solid or a hinted wall in fragments, it´s all about how it changes our physical and visual perception of a room and it´s spatial structure.” By using using furniture craft traditions and techniques, designers infused life into the red alder wood partitions with solid brass threads that help in supporting them.
Easily adjustable according to the height of the room, their basic function is enhanced by the sleek design. The Frame Partition features round dowels inserted into every post, encouraging people to enhance the functionality of the object by hanging things on the dividing wall. Depending on your needs, “the frame can be formed to stand in a straight line, a zig-zag shape and a curled shape that can form an enclosure.”
The second partition – Columns – is made out of six identical columns turned on lathes, reminiscent of the traditional methods of of turning wood. These columns can be organized in whichever way you like, scattered or brought together. It all depends on your needs and wishes to transform the space you live in.
