The friendly bear has gone under the hammer as Christie’s has offered an opportunity to bid for 36 of the statues from The Paddington Trail, which has been located across key landmarks in London. Each Paddington Bear has been exclusively designed by artists, designers and celebrities for the Trail, which is live until 30th December tracing the famous bear’s expedition from Darkest Peru across his favorite places in the capital. In all 50 statues of this classic character from English children’s literature were made of which Christie’s has already auctioned fifteen exclusive bears which were designed by the likes of David Beckham, Sandra Bullock and Benedict Cumberbatch. Pursuitist rounds up most favored British bears from Christie’s ongoing online charity auction –
Paddington Jack – Created by television presenter, Davina McCall, the Paddington Jack is the highlight of the Westminster area of London. Clad in the Union flag, the very noble looking bear is glad to witness the Changing the Guard. He certainly looks quintessentially British, especially on Horse Guards Parade. Boasting of $7,000 as current bid, the proceeds from Paddington Jack will go to Action Medical Research for whom Paddington Bear has been the official mascot for over 35 years.
Rainbow – At the time of writing the Darcey’s Rainbow Paddington has bagged a $6,200 bid. Shaped up by great British ballerina and located next to the Royal Opera House, the multi-color-stripes bear has been inspired by the creator’s love for colors.
Love Paddington x – The dazzling, glamorous Paddington has been conceived by British fashion designer, Lulu Guinness. Paddington is well known for travelling with his suitcase and Lulu wanted to give it her own personal makeover with the iconic trademark lip print. Furthermore, her bear’s name, Love, Paddington x, isn’t only a literal translation of Paddington’s adoration for London and its people. It also refers to the latest book title from Paddington’s creator, author Michael Bond. At present, Love Paddington x is featuring a $5,900 bid.
Goldie Bear –
Kate Moss’ Paddington has been dressed entirely in luxurious gold to show how just how precious he is. Renowned for his trademark dapper style in a duffle coat and hat, Paddington has earned himself a reputation as a fashion icon too. Hence Kate’s Goldie Paddington is seen in the window of one of the best department store in the world, Selfridges. Currently it is up for $2,200.
All proceeds from the auction will go to the NSPCC and its ChildLine service. Each bear will ship along with a copy of the brand new picture book Paddington Goes for Gold by Michael Bond, signed by David Heyman.
