The 1920’s were roaring alright and no other city in the world sparkled in the spotlight quite like Chicago. From the corruption of top political leaders to the explosion of speakeasies to the proliferation of mobsters, Prohibition in Chicago was glamorous, dramatic and above all, spectacularly thrilling. In modern times, resurrecting the furtive activities of the flapper era might prove difficult, what with the congestion of pop-up speakeasy style bars all over London, but it’s the Al Capone-esque “come in before someone sees you” motto that certifies the authenticity and secrecy of the Candlelight Club. This Friday and Saturday, the clandestine pop-up cocktail bar, will pay tribute to the bootlegging adventures of the Second City by hosting a Chicago Speakeasy Crawl. The Basin Street Brawlers will provide the tunes, fully equipped with an arsenal of jazzy Louis Armstrong melodies while guests can sip on Windy City inspired cocktails like the “South Side” and “Violet Hour” as they compare who is wearing the glitziest ensemble. Staying true to form, the location of the strictly candle lit lounge remains undisclosed until tickets are purchased, but guests can still practice their best Charleston beforehand.
