If the reports are true, London’s iconic fashion-label Burberry is a target for a possible takeover in 2014. Investment bank UBS has put together its annual merger and acquisition target list and named a variety of British companies as prime takeover targets. Of the 27 European companies listed, Burberry was named as the most likely to be acquired.
This could be one of the reasons that former-CEO Angela Ahrends departed the company in October to join Apple. With a looming take-over from a larger luxury conglomerate, like LVMH or Kering, this would’ve marked the perfect time for Ahrends to exit the company.
Paris-based luxury goods group LVMH has previously been named as a potential promising acquisitor that could also further extend Burberry’s infamous checkered print.
