Brides magazine has announced that the 118 islands and atolls that make up the Islands of Tahiti were named the top destination in the 2014 BRIDES Best Honeymoons Awards.
This year marks the first time the Islands of Tahiti, officially known as French Polynesia, has taken the number one spot in this yearly listing. Number two on the list was Italy, followed by Hawaii, the Maldives and South Africa.
“On behalf of Tahiti Tourism and the Islands of Tahiti, we are honored to be recognized as the best honeymoon destination in the world,” says Jonathan Reap, Managing Director, Tahiti Tourism North America. “The islands truly offer the ultimate in romance from the stunning backdrop of lush mountains and turquoise, lapis and aquamarine lagoons, iconic overwater bungalows, world-class resorts and quaint French-inspired restaurants, all add up for the ultimate private honeymoon. Also, we are closer than many think, just an 8-hour flight from Los Angeles.”
The Brides survey was conducted in conjunction with Virtuoso, a network of thousands of luxury travel agents, to determine the most romantic honeymoon escapes in the world for 2014. Published by Condé Nast, Brides is the country’s leading bridal brand and most trusted resource for brides.
There are daily nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Tahiti, which is halfway between California and Australia, on the same side of the International Date Line as North America and in the same time zone as Hawaii. Tahiti’s varied landscape ranges from just-above sea level coral atolls to volcanic mountain peaks. Tahiti is renowned for warm waters, white-sand beaches and stunning turquoise lagoons.
