To promote the BMW i8, BMW unveiled the “Hello Future” ad during the Opening Ceremonies of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games last Friday (watch below):
The ad features the voice of author Arthur C. Clarke as he predicts the feature in 1964, stating, “The only thing we can be sure of about the future is that it will be absolutely fantastic.”
BMW passed on advertising during the Super Bowl and decided to wait for the Winter Olympics, where the automaker is a major sponsor of the US Olympic team, to showcase their i8 plug-in hybrid.
“It is a rare and exciting opportunity to launch a new brand and for BMW i, one that requires a world-stage,” said Trudy Hardy, Vice President, Marketing, BMW of North America. “We look forward to making a bold statement about the future of sustainable mobility.”
