Antonio Banderas is best known for his career as an actor and producer, but in his spare time he’s been exploring other avenues of interest. Lately the 55-year-old actor has been studying fashion design at Central Saint Martins in London. On May 25th he presented his first collection in collaboration with Selected, a Scandinavian high-street label that is led by head designer Daniel Struzinski.
Struzinksi wanted the collection to capture Banderas’ “everyday man” sense of fashion. “In the morning, I wear jeans, something comfortable, sneakers, a T-shirt and maybe a leather jacket, and I go out,” said Banderas. “If I have meetings, I want to go a little bit more elegant so I wear chinos, a blazer to have a meeting with the producer, or a cocktail. At night I have to go on the red carpet, so I’d like to use a tuxedo obviously or a black suit.”
The linings of the outerwear and jackets are Banderas’ signature shade of ocean blue, inspired by his native Spain. The functional leather jacket, designed for motorcycle wear, has gold detailing, which Banderas said is inspired by the gold and leather work that Versace did back in the ’80s.
This marks the first of two collections Banderas plans to create as he continues to hone his fashion design skills.
