Bloomberg news is reporting that at a September 7 press event Apple will introduce a 99-cent TV show rentals, along with the $99 Apple TV – which many are referring to as iTV.
Rumors of Apple trying to get a 99-cent TV show rental have been going on for about a year, but it’s taken time to get the big networks on board. Apple is reportedly in negotiations with the major networks at this time to have as much content available as possible for the new TV offerings.
At the current pricing of $1.99 each, TV shows on iTunes and Apple TV have been slow to sell. Apple feels that for a rental of a TV show, the magic price point is going to be 99-cents – much like it was for music purchases. The key will be getting the major networks onboard with the new pricing.
