Her passion for food originated behind the lens, which led her to a career in recipe development and author. We sat down with Chloé and explored her inspiration, creative process and the release of her upcoming cookbook The Artful Way to Plant-Based Cooking

Pursuitist: What inspired you to become a cookbook author, and how did you get started in the world of culinary arts?

Chloé Crane-Leroux: I’ve spent the last ten years in the culinary world. I started as a food and lifestyle photographer, taking pictures for cookbooks, campaigns, and advertisements for different food companies. Working with chefs, cooks, and food stylists made me fall in love with the art of food.  Whether it was a simple meal or an elaborate feast, I was constantly amazed by the process. I learned from some of the industry’s best and often recreated the meals I photographed in my own kitchen, experimenting and refining my skills along the way.

In 2017, I co-authored my first cookbook with two other authors, including my mother. This experience was one of the most rewarding of my career, solidifying my desire to continue in this field. Our latest cookbook, The Artful Way to Plant-Based Cooking, was born from a vision to celebrate plant-based cuisine and the special moments shared over meals. This book aims to offer simple, delicious recipes that bring joy and connection to every dining experience.

What was your creative process when developing recipes for the book? Where do you draw inspiration from?

My inspiration primarily comes from my travels. Traveling and cooking bring me the most joy. I visit France, Italy, and Spain multiple times a year, with a particular love for the Mediterranean. This region has been a significant inspiration for the cookbook, influencing not only the recipes but also the visual imagery.

What is the secret to your success?

I feel like I’m always learning and growing. For me, success means being happy. If I’m happy and surrounded by people I love and who support me, that’s true success.
What culinary destinations are on your bucket list?
There are so many places I want to visit, but Morocco and Japan are at the top of my list. Both countries are incredibly diverse and beautiful, each with its own unique culinary experiences. In Morocco, I can’t wait to try the rich spices, tagines, and mint tea that reflect its vibrant markets and deep history. Japan, on the other hand, offers delicious sushi, ramen, and intricate tea ceremonies that blend ancient traditions with modern culinary artistry. Exploring the flavors of these two amazing cultures would be incredible.
Guilty pleasures: What do you eat when no one is looking?
Way too many salty snacks. Crackers, chips, and dips, you name it. I love a good girl dinner.
