3D printing is dramatically changing the trend in every sphere of life, not baring the fashion universe too. Fashion designers have already been experimenting with 3D-printed bikinis, footwear and dresses. The latest pioneering 3D feat brings Swarovski and Victoria’s Secret under one roof!
The 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show debuted sparkling Swarovski costume created using 3D printing. One of the most sought after catwalk extravaganza dazzles up with a high-tech outfit. Exclusively designed to fit Lindsay Ellingson, it is designed by architect Bradley Rothenberg and created by leading 3D printing marketplace Shapeways.
Encrusted with millions of illuminating Swarovski crystals, the 3D-printed filigreed snowflake wings precisely conform to Lindsay’s shape. The cutting-edge snowflake inspired design festooned with crystals, was a part of the finale of the parade along with 20 eye-popping, custom creations. We have already seen Candice Swanepoel on the catwalk clad in a $10 million Fantasy Royal Bra.
With 3D printing invading the fashion world, we’ll get clothing that fits better and unique designs that will raise the bar of personalization and customization. Dutch founded, New York based 3D printing marketplace and service has already partnered with Neiman Marcus, Bow & Drape, Kim Ovitz, and Michael Schmidt. This, however, is their first partnership with Victoria’s Secret.
Swarovski not only dazzles on the runway, but also in-store. In addition to the spectacular creations specially made for the show, exquisite lingerie from the Victoria’s Secret Designer Collection, which are embellished with Swarovski crystals, are also available for purchase at VictoriasSecret.com.
Alexander Wellhoefer, Senior Vice President, Swarovski North America stated, “For over 100 years, Swarovski has been the first to bring the finest products, services and innovations to the marketplace. As the only crystal company that ensures our partners are always on trend and ahead of the market, the strength of the Swarovski brand combined with the creativity of Victoria’s Secret not only results in cutting edge designs for the runway, but also captivates the consumer with collections made with Swarovski crystals at retail.”
Victoria’s Secret’s Monica Mitro claimed, “Swarovski has become an essential collaborator and vital ingredient to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show team. After working with Swarovski for over 11 years I can’t even imagine doing the VS Fashion Show without them. They bring sparkle and brilliance to our runway outfits and truly help to make the show the incredible fantasy that it is.”
Even CEO of Shapeways had his say, “Shapeways is thrilled to help make the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show even more dazzling in partnership with Swarovski. Shapeways’ 3D printing technology brings an unprecedented design element to the famed Victoria’s Secret wings, showing the immense opportunity 3D printing brings to creating beautiful, customizable items. This partnership helps push the boundaries and show what’s possible for the 3D printing industry, within fashion and beyond.”
