The Summerhill Residence fascinates with contemporary architecture and a natural choice of building materials. Perfectly integrated in its surroundings, the 4,095 square feet house is a weekend retreat for a couple from San Francisco. Located in Kenwood, Sonoma County, the residence is actually made of three volumes displayed in a geometric shape, protective of a patio and a swimming pool. The three independent structures – the main living volume, the guest house and the detached garage – are organized along a north-south axis in order to benefit from beautiful panoramas of the surrounding hillside.
Just to remind the inhabitants of the exceptional surroundings, large glazed windows open to the panoramic hillside. Decks wrap around the main house and the guest wing, allowing the clients to enjoy as much as the outdoors as possible. Designed by Edmonds + Lee Architects, the interior spaces have direct access to the decks and the outside landscaped areas through sliding and swing doors – modern gateways to the fresh and inspiring outdoors.
