Turnbull & Asser released its Spring/Summer 2016 SS16 collection yesterday at LC:M.
The new offerings play with the meaning of “being English” in today’s world, and use society’s relationship with time as an inspiration. As a result, new colors and patterns mix with multi-cultural heritage and influences — like Aztec, African, and Japanese prints and jacquards — that interrupt the traditional textile designs so iconic to Jermyn Street.
Timeless fabrics (true indigo cloths, rare Sea Island cottons, and knitted silks) are integral to the collection, of course, but are offered in a warm seasonal palette to accompany Turnbull & Asser’s classic regimental and club color signature shades. Spring/Summer shoppers will be tempted with new indigo and light khaki pieces, alongside mulberry, apple, tulip, and tangerine.
In addition to a broader color palette, there are new pyjama-style resort shirts re-imagined in linen blends and indigo patterns. And even the brand’s original woven Polo shirts, from the 1920s, are now offered in new knitted oxfords for a more laid back elegance.
New suits featuring shawl collar linen lapels, horizontal stripes in contrasting textures and 100% raw silk sports jackets. New shape waistcoats are introduced — worn in contrast to its suit partner for a play on three-piece perceptions.
Further among the innovations released at LC:M was Turnbull & Asser’s new cotton codenamed “Diamond Standard.” Originally developed for one of the brand’s most illustrious customers, it is compared to — and perhaps rivals — Sea Island cotton for comfort.
