Combining art with function was the main focus for Japanese architects SWeeT when designing this original looking Los Angeles noodle restaurant. Called “Tsujita”, the unit’s design stands out due to 25000 drumsticks that adorn the ceilings.
The overall design is contemporary and highly original, reminding of the Japanese modern style. The drumsticks at Tsujita LA all have different lengths in order to create patterns of swirling clouds. According to the architect, the process of placing the wooden sticks on the ceiling went something like this: “In order to make the clouds realistic, I calculated the focal length between the eye line and the wooden sticks and used that length for the stick length.”
Some of the walls are painted in dark beige, while other feature wavy-edged tiles. Bricks are also present, ensuring a casual overall feel. The intriguing bookshelf at the entrance (made of wood) is decorated with rectangular lanterns which feature the restaurant’s flower motif. The main dining area encourages socializing and consists of two types of seating units: black leather sofas and timber chairs. The lighting is provided by pendant lamps, lanterns and camouflaged spots in the ceiling. All in all, an original design and a great chill-out place for the people in LA.
