Trump International Hotel & Tower’s 89th floor penthouse soars high by setting the record for the priciest residential real estate sale in Chicago. The 14,260-square-foot property was bought over for $17 million by Sanjay Shah, founder and chief executive of Vistex. The 46 year old multimillionaire paid hard cash to put his name on the hottest property of Chicago.Listed for $32 million, the new owner has plans to invest an additional $15 million to furnish the colossal penthouse. Offering a 360-degree view of Chicago, the unit comprised of five bedrooms and eight baths. The 16-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows add up to the spacious area!
At present the Trump unit is non-glamorous raw space with drywall and concrete floors which are splattered of white paint. The new owner intends to knock out walls and take at least a year and a half to reinvent the space. Once done, the penthouse will serve as a second residence for his family and it will be used to host events for his company and philanthropic efforts.
Currently considered to be one of the tallest residences, it is expected to be the second-highest residence in the Western Hemisphere, after a new tower under construction on Park Avenue in New York opens.
Reasoning his latest acquisition, Mr. Shah states, “I’ve traveled all around the world, but just in terms of the architecture, even if you go to New York, there are other high-rises, but nothing quite as exotic as this. You can view every single landmark the city has. I think that’s what appealed to me most about it.”
