Here’s the first look at the trailer for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, starring actor Gary Oldman. The film is based on the 1974 spy novel by John le Carré, which the trailer refers to as the book that “redefined the spy thriller.” The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to positive reviews, with praise for Gary Oldman’s George Smiley, a reserved and astute intelligence officer who is brought out of retirement to face his old nemesis and hunt down a double agent — or mole — within the ranks of the British secret service MI-6.
The strong cast features Gary Oldman as Smiley and John Hurt (Harry Potter movies), Tom Hardy (Inception), and Colin Firth (The King’s Speech); the film is helmed by Swedish director Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In). Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy opened in the UK on September 16, in Australia on October 27, the US on December 9 in order to be considered for the Academy Awards. Then it rolls out in Spain and Sweden in January, and France and Germany in February.
