Thomas Tait, the Canadian-born and now London-based designer, was selected as the winner of the inaugural LVMH Prize by a judging panel made up of the LVMH luxury group’s top creative directors including Fendi’s Karl Lagerfeld, Phoebe Philo of Céline and Marc Jacobs.

First announced in November last year, the LVMH Prize sees the luxury giant select some of the best emerging talent from around the globe, with the winner taking home a grant of €300,000 and personalized support from industry experts.

Tait was previously nominated for the ANDAM prize in 2012 but only showed his debut collection for Fall 2010. After studying at the College LaSalle in Montreal, Tait received his MA from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.

Two special prizes went to Miuniku and Hood by Air. The former is a ready-to-wear women’s collection currently based in Mumbai but founded by sisters Nikita and Tina Sutradhar at the end of their time at the London College of Fashion, while luxe-streetwear label Hood by Air was created by Shayne Oliver in 2007 New York City.
