The official trailer for Julie Taymor’s Shakespearean adaptation, The Tempest, is now online.
The film, based on the Bard’s final play, stars Helen Mirren as the Prospera (replacing the traditionally male Prospero), a sorceress who rules over a magical island and its shipwrecked captives. The film also stars Russell Brand, Chris Cooper, Alan Cumming, Djimon Honsou, Felicity Jones, Alfred Molina, David Strathairn and Ben Whishaw.
Taymor previously adapted Shakespeare with 1999’s Titus and her work will soon be seen on Broadway with the just-announced November 14th opening of “Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark.”
The Tempest hits theaters on December 10th.
