First created in the late Fifties, the Jackie O bag is an instantly recognizable classic with rounded edges and a signature push lock closure. The style was originally named in honor of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis after she was photographed numerous times wearing the bag while working as a consulting editor at Doubleday. The Gucci classic became her constant companion, and showcased its potential as the perfect accessory for a working woman who demands convenience with class.
Decades later and this practical yet stylish classic has a new contemporary edge courtesy of Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini. Injecting her signature modern glamour into the new style, renamed the New Jackie, today’s oversized style has an eye-catching new deconstructed form yet simultaneously showcases Gucci’s heritage and the House’s exquisite craftsmanship. Each model requires a minimum of seven hours and maximum of thirteen hours (depending on type of leather) to produce by hand in Italy.
The New Jackie is enriched with long leather tassels and finely finished bamboo details and is available in precious skins like crocodile, python, ostrich and a super soft New Zealand calf. Equestrian influences feature as leather topstitching like that seen on show jumping saddles.
