When Nick Berman renovated a house in Sun Valley, Idaho, he and his partner, Gennaro Rosetti, created furniture for the project, including what they dubbed the Sun Valley table. It had a thick wood plank surface sheathed for 15 inches on either end with an aluminum skin that was given added texture with a hand-carved pattern. “This catapulted us into eight or nine new pieces and became a laboratory for a new direction,” Berman recalls. His company Berman Rosetti has been making furniture for more than 20 years. Their newfound inspiration has been yielding some handsome experiments, a number of tables and furnishings that exude a “rustic minimalism” and boast mixes of metal and wood combined in muscular compositions. They employ the same plank construction with hand-carved details and aluminum or steel accents (the patterns on the aluminum are also hand-carved with a sharp chisel). “In contemporary design there’s not a lot of room for embellishment,” he notes. The Sun Valley, Elle, Equis, and Montana lines all seem to strike just the right balance. They range from about $2,850 to $10,000, depending on the size, type of wood, or veneer requested. – From Robb Report
