New York is buzzing as the second annual NYCxDesign festival gets into full swing, and now Times Square is poised to get a slice of the action, thanks to a new exhibition made up of revamped vintage chairs.

“Street Seats” comprises a selection of reclaimed chairs found on the city’s streets, repainted in taxi-cab yellow paint, and placed in Times Square in seven rows of seven to echo the seating arrangements of a theater.

Visitors can use the 24-hour pop-up installation to take in the sights of the city and the chairs will be rearranged throughout the day to reflect the different ways the public uses the space.

The series of 49 chairs features a wide variety of different models and styles, from contemporary and industrial to rustic vintage pieces.

Led by New York-based architects Bade Stageberg Cox, the exhibit is part of “Street Theater”, a new urban research project.

The group is renowned for its work on cultural spaces, with projects including temporary installations and designs for nonprofit organizations.
