Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg will team up with Microsoft to produce a TV series based on the wildly successful Xbox game Halo.
Spielberg has played in the TV sandbox many times before before (Terra Nova, The United States of Tara, The Pacific, Band of Brothers, Amazing Stories and many more), but the Halo series is unique in that it will include exclusive interactive content for Microsoft’s new Xbox One. Spielberg will be an executive producer on the TV series.
There are not many details on the content of the new TV series, but it is expected to focus on the main Halo character, Master Chief, and his fight against the evil Covenant.
A live-action web series, Halo: Forward Unto Dawn, was previously made.
The Halo TV series comes in conjuncture with the release of the Xbox One console. Microsoft is positioning the device as not just a gaming console – but an entertainment center. A Halo TV series will give Microsoft exclusive, original content, something that has proven critical to other digital companies such as Amazon and Netflix – not to mention pay-cable stations such as HBO.
