We’ve seen hotel concierges and amenities of all sorts, but we’re partial to the kinds that seamlessly blend the local culture into a luxury experience. Which is why we’re charmed by the squeaky clean program from Las Alcobas, a boutique luxury property in the chic Polanco district of Mexico City.
Within the hotel itself, reflections of Mexican culture abound, from indigenous treatments at the Aurora Spa to a curated selection of nostalgic Mexican candies in the minibar.
The hotel furthers the authentic experience by presenting guests with a choice of handmade soaps with local ingredients upon arrival. The bars are made by soapmaker and herbalist Lilia Mendoza, founder of Manos que Curan (“healing hands”) – a line of screated from a combination of local Mexican plants, flowers and seeds.
Ingredients are made for various types of healing, with scents and blends like cucumber and nopal to soothe minor wounds and delicately exfoliate, amaranth to delay premature aging of the skin, and mint, which increases the skin’s moisture.
For repeat guests, their favorite soap from past visits will be placed in their room upon arrival.
Sounds decadent, right?
