Givenchy has released some of the artwork for its 2014 Spring and Summer Collection ad campaign. The campaign was shot by the fashion photographer duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
The campaign takes us on a decided international tour, billing itself as a ‘Cultural Crash’ as the collection embarks on a journey from Japan to Africa to America. As you would expect from the title, the collection draws on a variety of cultures.
Fronting the new campaign is singer/songwriter and actress Erykah Badu. Riccardo Tisci selected Badu to front the campaign, feeling she would be perfect for the African/Japanese mashups being presented.
All of the campaigns female models are women of color (the models Maria Borges, Riley, and Asia Chow).
Badu is best known for her role in the rise of the neo soul sub-genre. She is often referred to as the “First Lady of Neo-Soul” or the “Queen of Neo-Soul”.
