Christian Louboutin: The World’s Most Luxurious Shoes allows a look inside the French designer’s world on Channel 4. The documentary chronicles a year in the life of the red sole shoemaker. Favored by celebrities and well-heeled divas like Kate Moss, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Marion Cotillard, Nicki Minaj, Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively, Lady Gaga and Sarah Jessica Parker, his creations with shiny, red-lacquered soles are irresistible. Offering a glimpse into Christian Louboutin’s world for the first time, the hour-long documentary by director Michael Waldman gives an insight into the universe of luxury shoes.Keeping the reins of his global business in control, he has been captured during Paris Fashion Week, designing a collection as well as in his factory in Milan. The film also follows Louboutin to the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, where the designer creates a new collection of shoes handcrafted in the mountains from chunks of wood.
He also reveals that the Love shoes were inspired by famous image of Princess Diana at Taj Mahal. He is seen showing off a last, a block in the exact shape of her foot, which is used to craft tailor-made shoes, made for his special client, Kylie Minogue. Monsieur Louboutin also puts on display the special sandal designed for Angelina Jolie for the opening of Maleficent.A Pigalle shoe that was exclusively given a makeover for Kate Moss is also put up for admiration by the 51 year old Parisian designer.A fan of spikes, studs and lace, he also expresses his attitude, stating, “I’m probably a little bit naughty myself, so I just gave that to my shoes.”
Pointing out to one of his creations from his new collection, he adds, “I think I called this one Fetish.” In one of the video clippings he is seen exhibiting his new collection to Hamish Bowles of American Vogue. Louboutin draws his attention to a pair of very high lace-up stilettos, which he describes as “soft dominatrix – Taylor Swift goes fetish”. He also adds. “It’s very important to desire things that you don’t need, I think I make a very useless work and I’m very proud of it.”
This first-ever documentary of the brand and its eponymous founder’s lifestyle reveals a lot more than just some red soles.
