The soon to open Shanghai Disneyland theme park and resort is to set to get an adjacent luxury shopping complex.
The Shanghai Shendi Group announced a venture with luxury outlet chain Value Retail this week, Want China Times reports.
‘Shanghai Village’ will be located next to Shanghai Disneyland, which is set to open its doors at the end of 2015. The company also operates a similar property next to Disneyland Paris. A rendering of the Shanghai outlet center is below:
Located in the city’s Pudong district, the outlet will benefit from the transport links connecting the metropolis to the resort, and will aim to attract luxury bargain hunters.
The 50,000 square meter site will stock a variety of luxury Asian and International lifestyle brands with collections selling at discounted prices. The shopping complex is going to be “the most important tourism outlet shopping location in Asia” as Scott Malkin, the Chairman of Value Retail said.
Value Retail’s existing ‘Chic Outlet Shopping’ concept villages in Europe include boutiques from designer labels such as Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Dior, Gucci and Prada, among others.
The shopping complex will be the second Chinese outlet for the chain, which is planning to open its inaugural Asian site, Suzhou Village, in May 2014.
The Shanghai Disney Resort will feature a Magic Kingdom theme park and two themed hotels when it opens next year. But there’s more to it as well; the Treasure Cove, a themed land that will include a “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride designed specifically for Chinese guests. Concept rendering below:
“With Shanghai Disneyland, we’re creating a one-of-a-kind destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese,” stated Robert A. Iger, The Walt Disney Company, chairman and chief executive officer. “We believe this will be one of the most spectacular Disney experiences yet – and an important part of our future. We look forward to opening the gates at the end of 2015 and welcoming the first of the millions of guests who will enjoy Shanghai Disneyland for generations to come.”
The images (model and concept) illustrates a portion of Shanghai Disneyland, and provides a first look at a beautiful, 11-acre green space at the center of the park, and a closer look at the unique design and scale of Enchanted Storybook Castle, the iconic central attraction of the theme park. On opening day Shanghai Disney Resort will include Shanghai Disneyland, two themed hotels, a 46,000-square-meter (495,000 square feet) gross floor area retail, dining and entertainment venue, recreational facilities, a lake and associated parking and transportation hubs.
