Samsung’s Android-based Galaxy tablet will likely be launched within a few weeks – probably at the IFA 2010 consumer electronics show in Berlin.
Reports on the tablet indicate it would have a 7-inch Super AMOLED display with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI, a 1.2GHz A8 processor, 16Gb of internal memory. It will run the latest Android 2.2 OS – “Froyo”.
The Galaxy will have a display resolution of 480×800, GPS functionality, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and rear and front facing cameras. It will support Flash, something the iPad does not do.
This will be the first Android-based tablet, and it’s success (or failure) could be a harbinger for a wave of other tablets that will come in its wake. Getting the tablet out before the Christmas holidays will help sales – assuming the product delivers – and could set up Samsung’s device as a true alternative to the iPad.
