Korean technology giant Samsung says they have cracked the code for 5G wireless technology. 5G would be hundreds of times faster than today’s 4G LTE, allowing users to download an HD movie in seconds.

Samsung said it has successfully tested 5G wireless technology using the 28 Gigahertz (GHz) waveband to transmit data at a speed of 1 Gbps. Achieving the advanced speeds had been an issue for global industry players. But Samsung said it has used 64 antenna elements to overcome the issue, allowing the device to exchange real-time signals under the platform.

Using the 28GHz waveband, Samsung says they have achieved download and upload speeds of tens of gigabits per second (Gbps). Current 4G LTE networks top out at around 75 megabits (Mbps).

Samsung plans to make the 5G service available to consumers by 2020.
