Comedian Russell Brand has filed for divorce from his wife, the pop singer Katy Perry, just a little over 14 months after they were married. “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends,” Brand said in a statement, and offered no details behind the divorce. In papers filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Brand cited “irreconcilable differences” for the divorce, while Perry has not issued a statement.
In an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ show earlier this month, Brand denied any truth to rumors that he and Perry were having issues. “I’m really happily married,” he said at the time. “I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive.”
Both were seen separately this month without their wedding rings: Perry, while vacationing sans Brand in Hawaii, and Brand while back home in London. Brand and Perry were married in October 2010 at a resort inside a tiger reserve in India.
