When you find yourself visiting the largest city of Zhejiang Province in Eastern China – Hangzhou – and you’re in need of a relaxing mind, body and soul experience, visit the fascinating One Taste Holistic Health Club. Designed by Shangai-based studio Crox International, this heavenly place focuses on healing the mind and reuniting people with their own self. Spiritual awakening is sustained by this place’s enlightening combination of western holism and eastern serenity. Nature and humans are strongly connected through a rippling effect given by the designer to the interiors, as well as the exteriors. Inspired by the calming ripple effect of a lake, avant-garde architect Tsung-Jen Lin created a contemporary place of solitude and peace, where the best in modern design was used to compose a fluid space arrangement adorned with lauan timber flowing across the walls.
Public and private spaces dissipate into a dynamic play of curls and waves unveiling new panoramas as you move across the spaces. Natural materials like solid wood and stone were combined with reflections of silver foil to shape an inviting atmosphere based on simplicity and the organic, natural state of the materials. Curtains and movable mirrors help divide the space when needed, while natural light coming from the courtyard creates a dynamic play of light and shadow, sustaining the basic need for connecting with the outside, as well as the inside.
