As 2013 is coming to an end, everybody is gearing up to welcome 2014 with a bang! While many revelers have already booked reservations at luxury hotspots to bring in the New Year, others can simply head out in the open to watch some of the world’s most amazing fireworks. Right from New York to London and Sydney, dazzling firecrackers and fireworks illuminate the skyline to greet the New Year as well as fun-seekers. No matter where you have planned to spend your New Year’s Eve, fireworks will always be a part of the celebration. Pursuitist has rounded up ten most extravagant ones –
Sydney, Australia
Sydney is one of the world’s first cities to celebrate the New Year and also one of the first to light up its skies with firework displays around the Sydney Harbour. Millions of merrymakers converge around the Harbour line to watch the dazzling display of light and sound. The midnight celebrations’ highlight is the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the iconic Opera House. Since it is summer time Down Under, people do not have to worry about braving the low temperature like other cities in Northern Hemisphere.
Manhattan, United States
New Year celebration in New York is synonymous to Annual Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration. Manhattan will liven up with a spectacular display of fireworks and confetti as well as the famous ball dropping ceremony. Millions will layer up with warm clothes to combat the cold weather to welcome 2014 and make a good start with it! Just a word of caution – turn up early to get a better view of the festivities, attending celebrities, comedy acts and dancers.
Dubai, UAE
This year, Dubai is set to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a record-breaking feat with the largest display the world has ever seen. Over 400,000 fireworks will be lit up to put up a six minute show along with a series of scenes designed for the event. The extravagance will cover The Palm Jumeirah and The World to set a Guinness World Record. The show will commence with a ‘Flying Falcon’ doing rounds of The World islands. This accomplishment is also charged up to put New York in limelight in Middle East. The World Islands has selected New York Island from the manmade archipelago to be the highlight of the night. Another record attempt is also on the cards as the display will include a 225 metre wide and 130 metre high UAE flag shaped out of fireworks and special effects.
Brooklyn, United States
If you cannot make it to Manhattan then immerse in a show of light and sound on New Year’s Eve 2013-14 in Brooklyn’s centrally located Prospect Park. Grand Army Plaza is a favorite site for families as the fireworks will begin at midnight.
Miami Beach, United States
Sunshine State’s Miami Beach is one of the most sought after destination by revelers all round the year. However it crowds up on the last night of the year as it puts up an astounding firework show at midnight. Hit the beach early to grab the best vantage point.
London, United Kingdom

Moscow welcomes the New Year with midnight fireworks in Red Square set across spectacular background of the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum, Saint Basil´s Cathedral and the Kazan Cathedral.
Berlin, Germany
Berlin hosts one of Europe’s largest open air parties on New Year’s Eve between Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column. Over one million people await the beginning of a new year with breath-taking fireworks.
