Reed Krakoff, the President and Executive Creative Director of Coach, has celebrated his new avatar of a photographer at Bergdorf Goodman as guests raised a toast to his new book: Women in Art: Figures of Influence. Photographed by Reed Krakoff and published by Assouline, Women in Art: Figures of Influence features glossy intimate black-and-white portraits of leading women in the contemporary art community. From Valentina Castellani, Almine Rech, and Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn to Dominique Lévy, Marianne Boesky, and Lucy Chadwick, each woman possesses undeniable talent, creativity, and intelligence. The designer who has now turned into celebrity photographer by going behind the lens has visited galleries, museums, and collections worldwide to give shape to this book.
WWD reported that the walls of the third floor of the luxury store located at Fifth Avenue in NYC were covered with large prints from the book.
Playing a perfect host with his wife Delphine in tow, Mr. Krakoff revealed about his photographic skills stating, “I literally took 20 minutes to shoot with each person,” he said. “Everyone was shot in their gallery or their home. I wouldn’t see the space beforehand. I would just show up. I liked the idea of doing something totally organic in that way.”
After the book -signing event, the party moved up to the seventh floor of the store for dinner which was rounded off with the designer’s matte-black macaroons for Ladurée.
And for our readers who are keen to know more about the book –
Complementing each image is an art questionnaire—following in the spirit of Assouline’s bestselling Proust Questionnaire andFashion Questionnaire—personally completed by each woman along with selected works of art. A true objet d’art, Women in Art: Figures of Influence offers a unique window into the feminine side of the art world.
Reed Krakoff‘s first book with Assouline is available for $95 and will also be sold online at Reed Krakoff.
