A recent whiskey tasting offered us the chance to try some Redbreast 12 year Irish Whiskey. It was, surprisingly, the first time I had ever sampled Redbreast – and myself and our group of drinkers came away uniformly impressed.

Redbreast 12 year Irish Whiskey is produced at New Midleton Distillery by Irish Distillers. It is a pure pot still Irish Whiskey – making it closer to a single malt than a blended whiskey.

Our first smell of Redbreast introduced hints of sweet and spice. Very pleasant. Those aromas continued when we had our had our first taste. The Redbreast was smooth and warm, with sweet flavors (honey, vanilla) and a little spice. It was a delicious whiskey. We recommend you drink it neat – no ice is needed for something this smooth.

Whisky Bible 2010 named Redbreast its ‘Irish Whiskey of the Year’.

You can get a bottle of Redbreast 12 year Irish Whiskey for about $40.
