We love watches almost as much as we love cars. Yes, they are both designed for a purpose, but they are also so much more. They are functional expressions of our inner selves. As such if you’re a car enthusiast and you want to show your passion when you’re not behind the wheel, here are five timepieces that you shouldn’t be without.
Hublot LaFerrari
This is the ultimate expression of the partnership between the Swiss watchmaker and Ferrari. With a micro blasted titanium case, this unique wristwatch features 637 separate components. Echoing the shape of the iconic Ferrari, only 50 of these watches have been made, and one of them can be under your holiday tree this Christmas for just $300,000. Hublot Website
Baume and Mercier Capeland Cobra
One of our favorite new watches of 2015, this classic chronograph is finished in 18 karat red gold and has a sapphire crystal caseback through which you can see its Swiss La Joux-Perret 8147-2 automatic movement. The watch face is finished in Shelby’s Guardsman blue with very subtle striping across the face and picks up design details from the car’s instrument panel, even using the iconic Cobra logo on the second hand. For legibility at night, the watch employs a Superluminova blue emission to provide a soft glow and costs $19,950. Baume and Mercier Website
Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Super Sport
This fusion of Bugatti’s legendary design and the mechanical mastery of Parmigiani Fleurier, the Super Sport is powered by the manually wound PF370 caliber which incorporates two barrels, 40 jewels, “Côtes de Genève” finish and circular-grained hand-beveled main plates, nested inside a unique18K rose gold case. The watch is worn on indigo blue alligator leather Hermès strap with folding clasp at a cost of $259,000. Parmigiani Website
Breitling Bentley B05 Unitime
We love Bentleys and we feel the same about their watch partner Breitling. And for us the ultimate expression of that partnership is the Bentley B05 Unitime in Red Gold. Featuring an innovative Breitling movement with a patented mechanism, it is driven by a highly original oscillating weight shaped like a wheel rim and visible through the transparent caseback. At $58,100, it’s the watch you must wear when you’re at the wheel of a Continental, Flying Spur or Mulsanne. Breitling Website
Romain Jerome Moon Orbiter Speed Metal
While not technically an automotive themed watch you can buy the Moon Orbiter Speed Metal from Romain Jerome at Jewell’s at Galpin Premier, a watch and accessories store inside the world-renowned luxury auto retailer in Van Nuys, California. The Moon Orbiter is one of the more unique timepieces in their collection. It features PVD steel coated elements from NASA’s Apollo 11 spacecraft and moon dust from the lunar surface integrated into the watch face. For $133,500 you can own one of the 25 watches that were made. Jewell’s at Galpin Website
