Art and fashion cross each other’s path often as designers and artists collaborate to render extraordinary outcome from their unique creative juxtaposition. At present, Prada has dressed the windows of Bergdorf Goodman in New York with a high dose of art. The store’s Fifth Avenue windows are inspired by the brand’s In the Heart of Multitude arty project that was specially designed for their Spring/Summer ’14 women’s fashion show.
Last year Prada had invited muralists and illustrators to engage themes of femininity, representation, power, and multiplicity through a series of large scale murals created on the runway.
This year again, the Italian luxury fashion house has bought, the muralists and the illustrators, under Bergdorf Goodman’s roof to celebrate the same bold, colorful and powerful theme of depicting an energetic, strong woman. The striking portraits featured in Manhattan store’s windows are derived from original paintings of muralist Miles “El Mac” MacGregor created in Milan.
While onlookers can feast on the arty windows, shoppers with an aesthetic bent can also step in to grab Prada’s art-bags. Featuring commissioned art works of the six artists, the bags portray women’s faces which draw attention to the era of women’s liberation.
A girl-print saffiano satchel bag is available for $3,950. This one sports tote handles with rings, double-gusset sides and double turn-locks secure folded top too. The other shoulder bag edition of Prada’s saffiano girl-print collection is up for $2,800, featuring a printed girl image at front and a detachable piped shoulder strap. It also secures with a fold-over top with turn-lock closure.
NYTimes has also reported that the label’s small set of fur and leather zip pouches with face print are now available exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman. While the fur edition is high-priced at $7,200, the other leather handbag is much affordable for $1,150.
