Fashion and beauty go hand in glove and it isn’t novel to hear about a luxury fashion house or an independent fashion designer launch a beauty collection. While Jason Wu designed runway-inspired makeup collection for Lancôme, the famous Parisian shoe designer Christian Louboutin embarked on the beauty journey with the launch of a new nail polish collection. The latest name from the fashion world to jump on to the beauty bandwagon is Prabal Gurung. The Nepalese American fashion designer has teamed up with MAC Cosmetics to roll out a new line of makeup products.
Inspired by the work of British artist Damien Hirst and Swiss artist Sylvia Fleury and their subversive view on beauty, Prabal has designed the 14-piece collection that includes a bronzing powder, eye shadow duos, lipsticks, eye pencils, cream color base and also a buffer brush. Forbes also reports that the packaging of the products is inspired by the jeweled minaudieres of the 1920’s.
Designed to enhance the natural beauty of the wearer, the collection ranges from $20-$70 which is slightly higher than the usual price range of MAC products. It is justified as the new makeup collection is tinted with Prabal Gurung’s identity.
Prabal summed up his love for fashion and beauty by stating that it began when he was a kid and it was “my comfort and my escape.” He also added, “I design at a luxury price point, and wanted to be sure that the product I came out with was in sync with my brand. The one universal truth I really believe in is that every woman – no matter her shape, size or race – wants to look beautiful.”
Juliana Schurig is the face of Prabal Gurung’s beauty line with MAC Cosmetics. Lensed by Daniel Jackson, she has been styled by Ludivine Poiblanc. While Recine did her hair, makeup was worked upon by Val Garland.
Did you know that even Karl Lagerfeld had collaborated with Japanese beauty giant Shu Uemura to launch a one-off beauty line in 2012.
