Interesting move by the London auction house to spur business.
London-based auction house and art dealership Phillips de Pury and Company has created a series of themed auctions focused on areas of contemporary art, photography, and design, beginning with a sale in London of carefully vetted works created after the turn of the millennium. “Now: Art of the 21st Century” will begin in the flagship London gallery on September 19, and further sales will take place alternatively between the gallery’s other locations in New York and London. The auctions “will enable each department to interpret a given theme and express its curatorial strengths,” says chairman Simon de Pury. The Now sale, curated by de Pury and a team of contemporary art specialists, will offer a selection of art, design and photography. The New York sale, entitled “Latin America,” will take place on October 3. – From Robb Report
