Andy Martin Architects completed the design for a bar and restaurant project entitled Chan Restaurant and located in Thessaloniki, Greece, employing a lively fusion of modern and traditional Asian motifs.
The restaurant is characterized by a masculine dynamic space, with luxurious semi-private seating units. The lighting is subtle, creating an overall and cozy intimate atmosphere.
In order to complete the design of this project, AMA extensively researched their brief from ‘The Met’ with trips to Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia, trying to seek out the essence of distinctly modern Asian cuisine. “I wanted to create a truly sumptuous atmosphere without the stereotypical visual references. We looked at the contrast which exists between traditional and contemporary Asian culture and this duality which exists between the two and have tried to integrate that sense into our design.” Chan was also one of the winners projects of the Restaurant and Bar Awards 2011.
