For the Porschephile there will be no better place to be in three weeks than the Mecum Auction at Monterrey. There will be over 40 pristine examples of the iconic sports car for sale, from a rare 1955 550 Spyder to a numbers matching 1964 356c Coupe, as well as a number Porsche 911 coupes, targas and convertibles to honor the model’s 50th anniversary.
Though not an officially sanctioned Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event, the Mecum auction has grown each year in part because of the quality of the cars presented. This, the 5th annual Monterrey auction, features over 700 cars on consignment. In addition to the proliferation of Porsches, there are a number of 1960s Detroit muscle cars, vintage Jaguars, Ferraris and a wide range of race cars including a 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 and the Lotus Type 95T John Player Special Driven by Nigel Mansell in 1984 Formula One World Championships.
The Mecum auction will be held at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on the Del Monte Golf Course August 15-17 with much of it will be televised on the Velocity Channel. If you can’t make it to Monterrey, you can register to bid online, see all the vehicles up for sale and view the full auction as it is streamed live online at www.mecum.com.
