Most of the fashion shows are ruled by glamour, glitz and earthy smiles. However Opening Ceremony’s first-ever runway event broke the rules by unleashing a fleet of fast and furious supercars. The fashion brand also marked their debut by launching a mega pop-up shop at the SuperPier on Hudson River.
Spread out over 19,000 square feet, the biggest of any show space of the fashion week, the brand’s first runway show came to life with the roar of engines of twenty supercars. The stage was set to fire by an orange Lamborghini followed by Ferrari, Bentley, Aston Martin, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Land Rovers. Each car carried the models sporting Opening Ceremony’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection and later stood ubiquitously on the ramp to add theme to the event.
The collection was a love letter to New York, the city in which OC was born and a tribute to Carol’s Korean background. Clearly defined as ornamental, the lineup fused traditional Korean style with LA’s street racing culture. The ready-to-wear line was dominated with holographic prints and Asian floral motifs which blended over loose cargo shorts, voluminous jackets and matching pants. This was spiced up by including pieces in solid lime leather, cornflower blue, and poppy red. The Opening Ceremony’s spring menswear collection wooed men with bike-helmet visors, bags in cracked green and blue leather and sandals with colorful lucite heels.
Packed with supercars, super-clothes, super-accessories, super celebs like Rihanna and Justin Bieber pumped up the adrenaline of the event. DJ Ryan Hemsworth doled out ground-breaking sound for the show.
Opening Ceremony’s By The Water pop-up outpost includes DKNY Exclusively for Opening Ceremony, Rihanna for River Island, and Dominique Ansel Bakery cronuts. It will be running till September 12th.
Founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim’s creations lived up to the label’s spirit of savvy street style oomph.
