The Mona Lisa of apartments is how it is described by the new owner! The Winter Garden duplex penthouse at One57 was sold to a group including billionaire investor Bill Ackman for $91.5 million. Since 2011 it has been on the market and attracting wealthy investors before being labeled as the second most expensive single residence in New York City. We have already spoken about the duplex penthouse at the One57 condominium tower that was sold for $100.5 million to become the most expensive apartment in New York City. The 13,554-square-foot unit 75 spans the building’s 75th and 76th floors. Nestled in one of the tallest residential building, it includes six bedrooms, seven full baths and two powder rooms. The duplex penthouse is also known as the Winter Garden as its 2,500-square-foot curved-glass atrium opens to the sky. Large enough to house a garden or swimming pool, the two-story, 51-foot-wide garden also delivers an eagle’s-eye view of Central Park, along with vistas of the Hudson and East Rivers and other landmarks of the iconic NYC skyline.
However, Mr. Ackman, the founder and chief executive of Pershing Square Capital Management, has no intention of moving in his new property and pompously states that the apartment was just another “fun” investment opportunity for him and a few others. Probably he has plans to resell the apartment for a sizable profit, setting another sales record in the city!
