The Scenic Cruise Company has been in existence since 2008, and has become one of the highest end, luxury river cruise lines in existence right now, and certainly one of the most popular.
Pursuitist will cover the christening of the Scenic Jasper next week in Vienna. The Scenic Opal and the Scenic Jasper are the two newest next generation river cruisers, called Space-Ships, to be added the Scenic Fleet.
The building of the Scenic Jasper was completed just this year. It is 442.9 feet long, with 85 cabins, all suites, ranging in size from 204SF to 474SF. With Butler service for each of the 169 guests there is a 3:1 guest/staff ratio. There are six on-board dining options, a new split pool concept on the sun deck. One pool is a vitality pool for those wishing to relax in warm water; and the other is equipped with a water stream so it is easy to swim laps while staying in place.
Scenic’s fully-inclusive policy includes unlimited complimentary beverages, wines and spirits at any time; open bar service in the lounges; items in each cabin’s mini-bar; the Scenic Riverview personal GPS commentary device; and free WiFi throughout the ship. On-shore experiences are enhanced by the Scenic Tailormade GPS guided tour system. And everything from airport transfers to gratuities is included in the prices of these trips.
New culinary experiences on board all Scenic Space-Ships for 2015 include ‘Shop with a Chef’, where guests can join their chef and a local culinary specialist on a guided tour of the local food market and enjoy the regional dishes prepared with the produce that evening as a special dish of the day.
This trip will be fascinating, as Pursuitist has been to Europe many times, to Budapest, Bratislava, and Vienna many times also but has never actually been to some of the places on this itinerary, and in Springtime.
She has also never seen a ship christening, so she will be blogging almost daily about this adventure, the history, and life both on and off the Danube, on and off the Scenic Cruises Jasper. And then there is the Blue Danube, almost as old as time, moving history in her wake.
From The Blue Danube lyrics by Johan Strauss:
Old castles looking down from high,
Greet you smiling
From their steep
And craggy hilltops,
And the mountains’ vistas
Mirror in your dancing waves
We’ll see!
Stay Tuned!
