The New York International Auto Show is the oldest auto show in North America, celebrating its 115th year. The show which starts next week will have a very international and upscale feel with new and updated products from almost every major luxury manufacturer. Here’s a rundown of what you’ll want to make sure you see when you head to the Javits Center in Manhattan.
Aston Martin
James Bond’s favorite brand will be bringing a full slate of cars to the show including their exciting DB10 concept and their new GT4 spec racer, the 800 horsepower Vulcan.
Bentley
The crew from Crewe stunned the crowd in Geneva with their EXP 10 Speed 6 concept. It’ll be in New York where we’re looking forward to getting all the details.
BMW
It’s BMW USA’s 40th anniversary, and as such they’ll have cars from their past and present, including the ALPINA B6 xDrive Gran Coupe, and one of their most iconic racers, the 1975 Sebring winner, 3.0 CSL that I was lucky enough to ride in with Bobby Rahal last fall.
Cadillac
With probably the biggest and most important announcement in the past decade, Cadillac is launching its new CT6 full-size sedan. This is a category in which Cadillac needs to succeed, and the competition is stiff, going head-to-head with the BMW 7-series, the Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Ford
While not a luxury category, I have always been a big fan of hot hatchbacks. And none will be hotter at the show than the Ford Focus RS. The fact that it has a “Drift Mode” only has me looking forward to flinging it around our winding country roads this summer even more.
Infiniti
After making its debut in Detroit, Infiniti brings its stunning Q60 Coupe to New York. If you haven’t seen it in person you must. It’s gorgeous. In addition they will have the QX80 Limited on their stand as well. While not my favorite large SUV from an exterior styling standpoint, the interior is head and shoulders above anything else in the class.
Koenigsegg
One definition of luxury that I like is having more than you’ll ever need. And car has more under its bonnet than the 1500 horsepower Regera. Don’t miss it.
Lincoln
Ford’s luxury marque is climbing the ranks thanks to strong new entries, including the recently debuted MKX. If you get the chance to sit in one and listen to its Revel premium audio system you will be blown away.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes continues its all-out assault on every segment with a newly updated GLE full-size crossover, which will include an AMG version. Also on the stand will be their S-Class Maybach, which challenges the top of the industry for hyper-luxury chauffeured cars.
Porsche
Not satisfied to let the 911 nameplate rest, Porsche are bringing the 911 GT3 RS to New York, showcasing just how close to an all-out race car, a street car can be, and still be manageable everyday.
Range Rover
Fairfield County’s favorite family hauler gets a dark side with the Sport HST. Featuring a 3.0 L 550 hp supercharged engine, it’ll make those trips up to Choate that much quicker.
Rolls-Royce
The stately British brand will bring three bespoke cars, a Phantom Drophead Coupe, Ghost II and Wraith to New York, showcasing what is possible to achieve when you work with their designers to customize your Roller.
It’s going to be a great show, one well worth the $16 admission if you care at all about cars.
