The Nokia N8 Smarkphone is finally shipping this week.
Here’s a look at the pros and cons of the Nokia’s long awaited device.
Pros: The N8 is a solid piece of hardware with excellent video and camera quality – Nokia boasts that the phone will have the best camera of any smartphone on the market. The N8 can record and play HD videos. There is HDMI output and Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound, so it can be hooked up to a TV – nice features. It has a super 3.5 inch display. There’s also free GPS navigation. All in all, the multimedia capabilities are where the N8 shines.
Cons: There’s no way to get it for cheap with a contract with the N8 – thus you’re going to have to pay $549. The phone is a bit underpowered, but the most important thing is that the new Symbian 3 OS is simply underwhelming. There’s a feeling the OS is still rooted in an old school keyboard world. It simply can’t compare to the iPhone or Android models for an efficient and user-friendly experience.
It should also be noted that the N8 has about 5,000 app available – a far cry from 100,000+ for Android and iPhone. Nokia is going to need developers on board fast to make their phone a success.
