Audi has officially confirmed that the third generation of the iconic Audi TT will arrive in showrooms during 2014. The new model from the German car maker will be lighter, making it sportier than its predecessors and closing the gap with its main rival, the Porsche Boxster.
Audi hopes to shave 60kg from the weight of the car, thus improving its performance and fuel efficiency. To achieve this, the manufacturer will use a greater quantity of aluminum for the bodywork and will base the model on the MQB platform, developed by its parent company Volkswagen and already found in the new Golf and the new Audi A3, among other models.
“In addition to the innovative Audi A3 Sportback e-tron and A3 Sportback g-tron, the brand with the four rings plans to launch the third generation of its design icon, the Audi TT Coupé, on the market in 2014,” the company said in a statement.
According to rumors, the highly anticipated Audi TT could be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, which takes place from March 6-16, 2014.
