I have to admit that I’ve been a fan of Michter’s ever since getting my hands on a bottle of their small batch bourbon several years ago. I’ve gone through several of their whiskies, always coming away impressed – and happy. Michter’s was never an inexpensive whiskey – but I was not prepared for the price of their latest creation – the limited-edition Celebration Sour Mash Whiskey – which is selling for up to $4,000 a bottle.
Only 273 bottles of the Celebration Sour Mash have been produced. The whiskey is a marriage of select casks of 20 year-old and 30 year-old whiskies, together with other exceptional barrels selected by Master Distiller William Pratt. After the barrels were blended together, they were bottled by hand behind a label with 18 karat gold lettering. THe bottle comes in an elegant gift box.
Getting your hands on one of these bottles will be difficult. They will reach select stores, bars, hotels and restaurants next week in such places as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Aspen, Chicago, Palm Beach, Houston and Boston. Expect to pay upwards of $300-350 for a taste of this rare whiskey.
