In an effort to avoid putting on weight, Mercedes-Benz is looking to put the E-Class on a carbon fiber diet.
The luxury automaker is reportedly working on a carbon-fiber incarnation of the E-Class coupe. The carbon fiber-built product will be lighter, stronger and more rigid than previous models. It will weight 770 lbs less than the standard model.
The use of carbon fiber allows designers to play more freely when crafting a car. With less weight, it allows for more innovative styling and the incorporation of higher performance elements.
The first carbon fiber Mercedes vehicles will arrive in 2015.
