Mercedes-Benz has teamed with Silicon Valley-based Pebble Technology to create a wrist watch that connects with your auto. The new watch connects with Mercedes’ Digital DriveStyle app and serves as a simultaneous transmitter and receiver of data.

So, what exactly will a Mercedes smart watch do for you? Mercedes says the watch – when outside of the car – can provide you at-a-glance info about fuel levels, door-lock status and vehicle location. Inside your Mercedes, the watch will vibrate to signal an alert for things such as accidents and road construction. The user can customize the three buttons on the watch to active the Digital DriveStyle app. You can then have such features as Siri Activation and auto-routing at the touch of a button.

Design-wise, the watch isn’t bad looking in black. But the red color shown in some of the photos is a bit cartoonish for our tastes. It also appears a little bulky, which isn’t a positive. As we’ve seen with the Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watches, consumers aren’t flocking to big, bulky wrist watches.

Mercedes and Pebble Technology will debut the watch at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
