The trend of roping in architects to design handbags is catching up with Max Mara’s Whitney bag. The luxury Italian fashion house has added a new dimension by unveiling the bag which is directly inspired by the pure design and sophisticated materials of the new Whitney Museum of American Art. 
Max Mara has teamed with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop to mark the opening of the Whitney Museum in New York. Max Mara Whitney Bag highlights one of the most characteristic elements of the museum project, its facade, in form of the modular strips enveloping the bag’s exterior. Also the materials and colors are directly inspired by the museum’s exterior which manifests in form of elegant, blue-grey ribbed surface complemented with contrasting red lining and signature snap hooks in matte palladium finish.
Distinctive with vertical pin-tucks on the outside, the bag encloses red Alcantara lining to add color as a surprise element along with zippered pockets. Grab it with the double handles or sling it over the shoulder with an adjustable/detachable 108 cm long strap.
While the exclusive collectors’ edition is offered in a light blue-grey color reminiscent of the metallic shade of the museum’s facade, Max Mara has also rolled out the Whitney Bag in three sizes and colors – black, bordeaux and tan. The collector’s edition is available in limited edition of 250 numbered bags only. The Max Mara Whitney Bag will be available from May 1.

Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the Whitney Museum of American Art is a nine-story building, with asymmetrical roof and steel-and-glass exteriors. It is home to over 21,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, films, videos, and new media by more than 3,000 artists.
