By 2026, travelers can rest in luxury alongside the starting point of one of Africa’s greatest wildlife spectacles.
Marriott International recently announced that it will open its first JW Marriott luxury safari lodge in the Serengeti, Tanzania. This will be Marriott’s second safari lodge in Africa. Earlier this year, the brand opened JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge in the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
Tanzania’s lodge, expected to open in 2026, will be located within the Serengeti National Park. This is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site — one of the most renowned safari destinations in Africa and home to the Great Migration and some of the world’s largest herds.
JW Marriott Serengeti Lodge is expected to offer 30 private suites, including two presidential suites. All suites feature their own swimming pool and deck area. Extensive food, beverage and meeting facilities are planned.
The Lodge sits between the Grumeti and Mbalageti rivers. This gives guests stunning views of the surrounding plains as well as greater potential to see the abundant wildlife that frequents these rivers.
Access to the camp is from Kilimanjaro International Airport, followed by a domestic flight to an airstrip in Serengeti or an eight-hour drive with scenic views of the vast savannas and wildlife along the route.
The Serengeti National Park is an important wildlife conservation and wilderness area in sub-Saharan Africa spanning 5,700 square miles. Here, visitors may expect to see the “Big Five,” including lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros, and African elephant.
