L’Wren Scott, a 47 year old fashion designer and the long-time girlfriend of Mick Jagger, was found dead in a Manhattan apartment on Monday morning.
A spokeswoman for Scott, Lisa Lupinski, confirmed the death. The police said that the cause of death appeared to be suicide, as she was found hanging from a scarf in her Manhattan, New York apartment.
Police do not suspect foul play, even though they have yet to recover a suicide note explaining Scott’s reasons for taking her life.
Reports suggest she texted her assistant at 8.30am local time and asked her to come to her apartment. When she arrived, she discovered her boss’ lifeless body and called the police.
Scott, who began her career as a model, met Jagger in 2001. As well as dating him, she dressed stars like Angelina Jolie, Michelle Obama, Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz for red carpet events, and launched her own fashion brand in 2006.
Last month, she announced she had cancelled her London Fashion Week show.
A spokesman for Jagger told the BBC that the singer was “completely shocked and devastated.”
Those mourning the designer range from fashion houses like Marc Jacobs and DKNY to CFDA CEO Steven Kolb to actress Emmy Rossum and stylist Tara Swennen.
